Any weekend

The Monza challenge.

Inside Splunk, every weekend is Monza weekend. The 2025 race is bundled, so the questions below always have exact answers.

The Pit WallThe 2025 Italian Grand Prix replaying inside Splunk, 20 cars on a Monza map drawn from their own GPS. Recorded from a stock install, nothing staged. Muted.

What SPLap is

A free Splunk app that replays a real Formula 1 race from real telemetry. Install it and the 2025 Italian Grand Prix is already moving: a timing tower, every car on a circuit derived from the cars' own GPS, the Position Worm, Lap Delta, Incident Review and race-engineer findings. Every panel has a Show SPL button with the real query behind it. No API key, no internet needed after install, no language model anywhere. Built on weekends by Lloyd Clark and his daughter Lilli.

Install the app, open it, and the bundled race is ready. Splunk Enterprise 10.x or Splunk Cloud; the free Splunk trial in Docker works too (how).

Three questions, one real race

Each one can be answered from the app in a few minutes. The numbers in the hints are read straight out of the bundled data, so you can check us.

  1. Lap Delta

    Where did Norris beat Piastri?

Norris's lap 48 was 0.207 s quicker than Piastri's lap 47 (1:21.038 against 1:21.245). Which corner is worth the most, and what changed in the braking point?

How: open Lap Delta, pick NOR lap 48 and PIA lap 47 (or open lap_delta?a=4&lapA=48&b=81&lapB=47 inside the app), click the corners, then press Show SPL on the traces panel. Send the corner, the metres, and the query.

  2. Position Worm · Pit Wall

What did the slow stop cost?

Piastri pitted on lap 45 with 23.6 s in the pit lane. Norris pitted on lap 46 with 27.5 s. Find both stops, work out what the extra 3.9 s did to second place, and then watch what happens two laps later.

How: open the Position Worm and click the two pit dots to jump the replay to each stop. Press Show SPL on the pit panel for the lane times, then let the Pit Wall run and note the lap where P2 changes hands, twice.

  3. Incident Review

Does the telemetry back the stewards?

Lap 42, Turn 5: race control noted an incident between cars 55 (Sainz) and 87 (Bearman); Bearman later got a 10-second penalty. Both cars' telemetry is in the app. Make your own call.

How: open Incident Review, choose the lap 42 Turn 5 message from the list, scrub the 30-second window with both cars on the map and their speed, throttle and brake traces on one cursor. Send one screenshot and your verdict in a sentence.

The Pit Wall has a Share Moment button that copies a link to the exact second, driver and layer. Post the screenshot with the link and tag it so we find it.

Feedback, then an honest rating

If something is rough, confusing or slow, tell us first; that is worth more to us than a polite five. If, after using it, SPLap earned a rating, the Splunkbase listing is where ratings live.

The Founding Pit Wall

The first fifty people who install SPLap, finish one of these questions and send us something useful (an answer, a screenshot, an SPL query, a bug or a good suggestion) get a place on the Founding Pit Wall, with a car number and a share card. It is about using the thing and helping make it better, never about leaving a review.
